Legacy Avalara Integration No Longer Working (7.052 or older)

Overview On September 26, 2022, we were notified by Stone Edge users that Avalara was returning an authentication error for Stone Edge users on the old integration. This includes any version older than 7.052 and versions 7.701-7.723. This is because the prior versions use a legacy integration that Avalara no longer supports. Stone Edge was updated to use the current Avalara API integration, starting with version 7.724. This integration works and will continue to be maintained for new releases of Stone Edge. The issue: When trying to use Stone Edge and having Avalara set as the sales tax system, the following error will appear: Solution: We recommended updating to the current version of Stone Edge Order Manager, which can be downloaded here: Download Gateway - Stone Edge Technologies If you need help upgrading to the current version and are already within the 7.7xx, please reach out to support@stoneedge.com. Microsoft Ending Support of Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer 11 Internet Explorer has been around since the year 1995 and on October 17, 2013, Internet Explorer 11 was released, which was the last major version of Internet Explorer. Starting June 15, 2022, Internet Explorer 11 will not be supported for certain versions of Windows 10.  Microsoft plans to move its users to Microsoft Edge as it boasts more features and better security. Updates with Stone Edge Stone Edge previously used Internet Explorer to open any web connection from Stone Edge. Starting with version 7.729, Stone Edge has been updated to use the default browser located within your Windows settings. What if I have an Older Operating System? True the end of Internet Explorer 11 will mostly affect Windows 10 users at the time of writing this, however that does not mean other operating systems will not be affected. Even if you can still access Internet Explorer on older operating systems the majority of Microsoft’s technical support is for Windows 10 and 11. Outdated software can cause issues and being more aware of your software and staying up-to-date is the best way to keep these changes from affecting you. But What About IE Mode? IE Mode, or Internet [...]

Depreciation of Less Secure Apps for Google

Less Secure Apps for Google Stone Edge is compatible with Google email accounts by enabling “Less Secure Apps.” As of May 30, 2022, “Less Secure Apps” will be depreciated and unavailable. Google Workspace has an extended date yet to be determined but will be announced on the Google Workspace Blog. Once “Less Secure Apps” becomes unusable, Stone Edge will no longer be able to use SMTP for Google emails. What does this mean for Stone Edge? There are essentially two solutions to this issue. Migrate to a different email platform. We recommend migrating to Microsoft Outlook since any company with Microsoft 365 will already have access to this. Migrating includes mail, calendar, and contacts with few exceptions. Microsoft has detailed articles on migrating from Google, which can be found below. Perform a Google Workspace migration to Microsoft 365 or Office 365 | Microsoft Docs Migrate consumer Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) mailboxes to Microsoft 365 or Office 365 | Microsoft Docs NOTE: There are many other email platforms that can be used your company will need to research which is right for your needs. Use a 3rd party email client using GWSMO or IMAP. Again, we recommend going to Microsoft [...]

Speed Up Order Imports

The Stone Edge Order Manager (SEOM) is a powerful automation tool for online retailers.  It can take processing of orders from a very manual and tedious process, to a fully automated process, or somewhere in between. Why can order imports be slow? Many users like to automate routine tasks during the order import.  This might include running a MaxMind fraud check, validating address during import, charging credit cards, or using approval rules to revise or manipulate orders.  Unfortunately, the more things that you have the software doing during the import, the longer the import will take.  This is especially true when that "thing" involves a post to the Internet, such as fraud checks, address validation on both billing and shipping addresses, and credit card processing.  If each API call takes one second to post, wait for a response, then process the response,  you can see how doing a fraud check, address validation, and credit card pre-authorization can add several seconds to the import of each orders!  Multiply that times hundreds or thousands of orders and you're in for a long wait. The other bottleneck when import orders has to do with the limitations of reliably importing data between two distinct [...]
