Overview

Americart and Virtual Cart are older, very basic shopping cart systems with limited features.  However, their sister shopping cart, Americommerce, is compatible with Stone Edge through a generic shopping cart license.

This shopping cart's capabilities:

Shopping carts can be defined during the Setup Guide when the program is first installed, or you can enter them at a later date by following these instructions.

Product Attributes, Order Options, and SubSKUs

Product attributes (variants, options) refer to the sizes, colors, finishes, etc. in which the product is available.

Americart and VirtualCart append product attributes to the item name, which is how they are displayed in the shopping cart.

There are three ways to handle product attributes in Stone Edge when orders are imported:

  1. You can retain the standard SKU as the main product, put the attributes into fields Option 1 through 10, and put the entire field supplied by Americart in the Freeform Options field.
  2. You can retain the standard SKU as the main product and put each attribute in a separate line item. Items that are options for the main product (color, size, etc.) are stored with the SKU, "Order Option". The Price and Cost fields are set to zero and Stone Edge does not track the QOH, as it can with the main product.
  3. The third choice is to have Stone Edge build subSKUs for your products with attributes. Stone Edge can then track QOH at the attribute level. For example,  if you sell T-shirts and each shirt has a color and a size, you want to know how many of each size and color you have in stock, not just the total number of T-shirts. The process of building subSKUs takes a "parent" SKU, such as "ABC001" and creates specific "subSKUs" for each combination of the product's attributes, such as "ABC001-Blk-XL", and "ABC001-Blk-L", etc. When orders are imported, Stone Edge replaces the parent SKU with the subSKU and puts the attributes into the Option 1 thru Option 10 fields. The QOH of each subSKU is decremented as orders for those unique product attributes are imported.

For more information about these Stone Edge processes, read Options, Attributes and Sub SKUs, and Build Sub SKUs.
