Socket Error

Intermittent Socket Errors

Attempting to send email from the Order Manager generates an error message similar to "New email method error: Socket error:".

The error occurs when the SMTP server refuses to or is unable to create a "socket" connection with the Windows Operating system (TCP/IP software) on your PC. Typically socket errors occur randomly, which is why you may see a difference between the way it works on one computer versus another and why oftentimes the problem goes away after rebooting.

This type of error is beyond the ability of the Order Manager to control. Starting with version 4.002, the Order Manager monitors certain error conditions such as socket errors and SMTP connections closed by the server and attempts to reestablish the link up to 10 times. If the system is unable to complete the send, it will display an error message. Reboot the computer to re-establish the connection.

Consistent Socket Errors

The user should try the following: double-check the address to which the email is being sent; reboot; or shut down any fire wall or virus protection software running on the workstation before attempting to re-send the email manually.

Note: Stone Edge Technologies recommends using McAfee virus protection software to avoid conflicts with the Order Manager.
