You can define SKUs as subscriptions in the Order Manager and then manage recurring orders for those SKUs using the Subscription Manager add-on. The Subscription Manager is flexible in that it allows you to base subscriptions on regular shipment intervals or specific dates. It also allows for:

Open-ended subscriptions
Invoicing per shipment or subscription term
Alternative billing and shipping addresses for a specified time period
Placing a subscription on hold
Shipping the same item or items per shipment, e.g. vitamins
Selecting the item at the time of shipment, e.g. a wine of the month club
Shipping items based on an ordered list, e.g. music collections
