The Order Manager is compatible with common Barcode scanners, which can be used for several purposes, including:
Receiving inventory.
Confirming items as they are packed.
Scanning point-of-sale purchases.
To work with the Order Manager, a Barcode scanner must:
Connect directly to your computer and provide keyboard input.
Allow you to program a "prefix" and "suffix" that the scanner adds to every scan.
Allow the carriage return and line feed functions to be disabled.
Please review the articles that are listed at the bottom of this page for additional information.
The "Metrologic 9520 Voyager (USB version)," is a barcode scanner that has been tested for use with the Order Manager and is available for under $200 directly from Stone Edge Technologies.
Before you attempt to use a barcode scanner with the Order Manager, review the default settings of the related system parameters and also review the manufacturer's documentation for changing the internal programming of the device. Refer to the Knowledge Base articles that are listed at the bottom of this article for more detailed instructions.
Go to the Set System Parameters screen and choose the Barcodes group from the Parameter Group list.
Then select the parameter to be set in the Parameters in Selected Group list in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. The Parameter Comments should briefly explain the purpose and possible settings of the parameter.
If necessary, change the parameter value in the lower right-hand corner of the screen and click the Save button. For most users, the default parameter settings are sufficient, however, the values ultimately depend on the hardware that is being used and how you want the program to behave.

Barcode scanners can be used at the following locations in the program:
| Form or Screen | Use |
| Enter Barcodes | Select an item, then scan its Barcode to add the Barcode to the item. |
| View Inventory | Scan a Barcode. The program will ask if it was your own Barcode, the manufacturer's Barcode or the supplier's Barcode for the current product. It will then store the Barcode in the appropriate field. |
| Edit Inventory | Scanned code is inserted into the Barcode field. |
| View Orders | The program looks for an order where the Order Number is the same as the scanned number and displays that order. |
| Pack Orders | First
scan an order number. (To include bar-coded order numbers on your
invoices, see the parameter ShowBarcodesOnInvoices, in the Reports
group.)
Then scan each item as it is packed. If you scan an item that does not belong in the current order, the program will display an error message.
When you are finished packing the order, scan the order number again to close the order. If any items have not been scanned, the program displays an error message. |
| POS (Point of Sale) | Use like a supermarket scanner. Scan an item to add it to the current order. |
| Purchase Orders | Scan
an item to receive it against the current purchase order.
|
| Inventory Scanner (Scan Non-PO Items) | Use to receive items that were not ordered on a Purchase Order. Scan items to add them to your inventory. |
