The Stack Controller

The Stack Controller is in charge of sending "posts," such as email, order status, and inventory updates from the Order Manager to their destinations. There are three Stack Controller options; choose the option best suited to the volume of your business:

  1. Local - By default, the Order Manager stores pending post requests on the local workstation using the stack controller within program file. This option is suitable for smaller businesses with a small volume of orders.

Note: If your system becomes "hung up" while importing orders, processing tracking numbers, or sending email, you probably need to switch to the Shared or External Stack Controller option.

  1. Shared - This option is recommended if you have a medium-volume store, use the Order Status System, or want to ensure individual workstations running the Order Manager are not held up by post requests. A shared stack controller enables multiple Order Manager workstations to send posts to one dedicated stack controller running on a separate computer.

Note: To use this option, Order Manager users must be on a network using a shared Order Manager data file, with access to the dedicated computer running the stack controller.

  1. External - This option is recommended for higher volume stores. The External Stack Controller is a standalone application that runs outside the Order Manager and only interacts with the Order Manager only when it receives post requests. The External Stack Controller is a free, separate downloaded file available on the Stone Edge Download Gateway. It must be installed on one PC that is networked to the others running the Order Manager.
