This article pertains to the Order Manager version 5.803 and lower.
The Sales Tax tab of the Store Setup Wizard is where you specify tax rates by state, city and country and provide city name aliases.
Important: Changes made on the Sales Tax tab take effect immediately!

Specify tax rates by state, city and country
Go to the Sales Tax tab.
The Recalculate Tax Rates? checkbox is checked by default. If there is a discrepancy between the sales tax calculated by your shopping cart program and the sales tax calculated by the Order Manager when the order is imported, the Order Manager applies the amount of sales tax it calculates to the order. Clear the check box if you do not want the Order Manager to recalculate sales tax based on the Ship To/Bill To information for each order. This is not recommended unless your website uses a radical tax calculation method.
Clear the check box Use Taxable Field? if you want the Order Manager to assume all items in your inventory are taxable.
Enter any applicable state, city or country sales tax.
Note: Most merchants in the United States will not specify a country tax rate.
To enter a city and/or state tax rate, do the following:
Enter the 2 letter state abbreviation in the State column.
Note: It does not matter whether the state abbreviation is upper- or lower-case. You can specify an alias in the City Name Aliases section. This information is used to auto-correct any data entry "errors" in address fields throughout the Order Manager. For example, you may want to enter an alias for Pennsylvania. Enter "Pa" or "pa" in the Convert From field and "Pennsylvania" in the Convert To field.
If you DO NOT need to specify tax rates for cities within the state, enter "any" (without quotes) in the City column. Otherwise, enter the name of the city in the City column
Enter the tax rate (a percentage) in the Tax Rate column.
If shipping and handling fees are taxed by the state, click the checkbox in the Tax Shipping & Handling? column. To enter a country tax rate, do the following:
Enter the country name in the Country column.
Enter the tax rate (a percentage) in the Tax Rate column.
If shipping and handling fees are taxed by the country, click the checkbox in the Tax Shipping & Handling? column.
Provide city name aliases
City name aliases ensure proper tax rates are applied to orders regardless of how customers enter the Bill To city name.
If a city name is abbreviated routinely, for example "L.A." for "Los Angeles" or "Phila." for "Philadelphia", enter the abbreviation in the Convert From field and the fully correct city name in the Convert To field.
Note: This information is used to auto-correct any data entry "errors" in address fields throughout the Order Manager. For example, you may want to enter an alias for Pennsylvania. Enter "Pa" or "pa" in the Convert From field and "Pennsylvania" in the Convert To field.
