4th Annual
Stone Edge User Conference for Web Retailers Sells Out
Basic & Advanced Sessions for Users of Stone Edge
Order Manager
BLUE BELL, PA (June 12,
2007) – Stone Edge Technologies, Inc., today announced that its fourth
annual Stone Edge User Conference in San Jose June 2-3 attracted a capacity
crowd of new and experienced users of the Stone Edge Order Manager, the leading
business management program for small to mid-sized Web retailers. The
conference was Stone Edge’s largest to date with 100 attendees from more than 65
companies.
The meeting included two full
days of sessions, with separate Training and Power User tracks that could be
attended on a mix-and-match basis according to participants’ needs.
The most popular Training
sessions were “All About Inventory,” covering the use of inventory fields, how
to handle products that have attributes such as color and size, product
information import/export and other inventory management functions in the Stone
Edge Order Manager; “Customizing Reports,” a tutorial on customizing the Order
Manager’s standard reports, plus creating custom reports from scratch; and
“Using QuickBooks with the Order Manager,” a seminar presented by independent
accountant and QuickBooks consultant Roxanne Brown.
The most popular Power User
sessions were “Show & Tell: Warehousing and Shipping,” during which attendees
shared their strategies for streamlining warehousing, order picking/packing and
shipping procedures; and “Shopping Cart Shootout,” an open discussion of users’
experiences with Miva Merchant, Yahoo!Store, CommerceV3, Americart, ShopSite,
PDG Cart, Volusion, and a variety of other shopping cart systems.
A highlight of the Warehousing
and Shipping session was the presentation given by Order Manager user Julie
Swatek, founder and president of ScrapYourTrip.com. Swatek’s company ships more
than 100 orders per day, and due to the large number of items on each order, it
was taking an average of over 10 minutes to pick each order. Swatek had an MBA
class from a local college take her company on as a class project. They
recommended some changes to her warehouse layout, and a switch from picking one
order at a time to “wave picking,” where one person picks ten orders in each
pass through the warehouse. The result was an immediate reduction from 10
minutes per order to just 90 seconds.
“I am thrilled with my decision
to become a Stone Edge user,” Swatek said. “I would never have been able to get
this increase in productivity without the Stone Edge Order Manager as a tool. I
was also thrilled to see how many larger operations are using it successfully.
Now I know that this system can help me grow from a 5,000-square-foot warehouse
to 50,000 square feet and not miss a beat.”
“You could almost see steam
rising from the heads of the merchants in the audience because they were
thinking so hard about how similar changes could work in their picking and
packing operations,” said Barney Stone, President of Stone Edge Technologies.
“This was the largest and most
information-packed User Conference since we started holding these meetings four
years ago. That reflects the ongoing expansion of Internet retailing in general
and our customer base in particular,” Stone continued. “Smaller online
merchants are looking for the most efficient way to run their businesses, and
this conference gave them practical tools ranging from information on the fine
points of using our software to tips from fellow Internet retailers. It’s not
just a technology conference; it’s two days of intensive problem-solving.”
The Stone Edge Order Manager is
used by nearly 2,000 online merchants to automate and streamline their
operations. The application can import orders from about 30 shopping cart
systems including MonsterCommerce, Cart32 and osCommerce, as well as other sales
channels including Amazon, eBay and Shop.com. It also handles
orders from an optional Point-of-Sale system and those
that arrive via mail, fax or email. It tracks inventory, processes payments,
helps with picking, packing and shipping, and otherwise simplifies the process
of running a small online business.
